ABOUT THE ARTIST
"There is a path from the eye to the heart that does not go through the intellect." -Chesterton
"At that instance he saw, in one blaze of light, an image of unutterable conviction, the reason why the artist works and lives and has his being -- the reward he seeks -- the only reward he really cares about, without which there is nothing. It is to snare the spirits of mankind in nets of magic, to make his life prevail through his creation, to wreak the vision of his life, the rude and painful substance of his own experience, into the congruence of blazing and enchanted images that are themselves the core of life, the essential pattern whence all other things proceed, the kernel of eternity." - Thomas Wolfe in "Of Time and the River"
I hope you enjoy my sculpture. I’d love to hear your comments.
I accept commissions for any size sculpture, tabletop to monumental. I am experienced in and enjoy dealing with individuals, municipalities and civic groups.
I work mainly in water-base clays. I mold, cast and finish my work in bonded materials at my studio. I use foundries for casting in Bronze and my techniques allow me to use foundries all across the USA to take advantage of the best pricing possible.
Please feel free to contact me about pricing, purchasing an existing sculpture, planning an original sculpture or anything else. Most sculptures pictured on this site may be purchased. Please contact the Artist at eyetotheheart@bellsouth.net for details.
I think that sculpture is most effective when conceived knowing beforehand the location and purpose. I think that sculpture is most effective when it is monochromatic or has the same basic finish throughout. I admire abstractions, but I think they work best when combined with the human form or natural world.
I am an Associate of the National Sculpture Society and a member of Tri-State Sculptors. My work is permanently installed at St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock, North Carolina; at St. James Episcopal Church, Monkton, MD: at the Grandfather Home for Children in Banner Elk, NC; at Davant Field in Blowing Rock; at the Blowing Rock Community Arts Center; and at Veterans Memorial Park in Blowing Rock, NC. My World War II Memorial was dedicated in Morganton, NC on Veteran’s Day, 2005. My life-size portrait of Sen. Sam Ervin, Jr. was installed in Morganton, NC in 2007. My life-size portrait of Doc Watson was installed in Downtown Boone in June 2011.
My work is privately owned by institutions and individuals across the USA and in Europe.
My work can be seen and purchased at Alta Vista Fine Art Gallery in Valle Crusis, N.C.
